8 Best Point-and-Shoot Compact Cameras on Amazon

If you are looking around to buy a point-and-shoot digital camera, a lightweight camera that literally fits in your pocket, this post is for you!

I know how time-consuming and confusing it can be looking for a new camera, so to help you out I’ve been digesting endless Amazon reviews and best seller lists for cameras and researching via Google and Pinterest.

From my research, I’ve created a short list of the most popular point-and-shoot compact cameras to save you some valuable time and to help you narrow down your own list.

Why Purchase a Point-and-Shoot Compact Camera?

If you have any upcoming vacations or special moments, and you typically capture your photos on a smartphone, a compact digital camera can be a nice upgrade.

These pocket-size cameras are not bulky like a DSLR and easy to take anywhere with you.

I know how precious your travel memories can be, our motto has always been accumulating memories not just possessions and we like to do that through travel.

So whether you’ll be snapping images of a pretty sunset, capturing moments from your camping trip or just playing on the beach with your kids, having a point a shoot camera at your disposal will allow you to capture those special moments.

Benefits of compact cameras include:

  • Easy to pack for travel.
  • You can capture anything; portraits of your family, landmarks in the distance and virtually everything in between.
  • Easy to use (they are called point-and-shoot for a reason) but also offer similar manual controls to a DSLR.
  • Better image quality than your smartphone due to larger sensors.
  • Some have built-in WiFi (you can post to Facebook or Instagram with image quality you won’t get from a smartphone)
  • Optical zooms. These compact cameras allow you to shoot subjects off in the distance that wouldn’t be possible on a phone.
  • Instead of relying on your phone for everything and keeping it charged, you have a designated camera that can also shoot quality video.

Compact digital cameras vary in price depending on the brand and features, and my list below ranges from $300 to $998 so you should find something within your budget.

And Amazon is a great place to go shopping with mostly helpful reviews from people just like you and me.

Do you already own a point-and-shoot compact camera? What compact digital cameras can you suggest?

  1. We had great experience with the Sony model and can oly highly recomment it! Its certainly one of the best compact cameras for low light shooting as well.

  2. Great choices although not cheap some of them! As a travel photographer myself I normally suggest mirrorless cameras because they are so much smaller and less bulky than DSLRs and with a nice compact lens they can easily by carried around. If I was going to choose one of those I’d go with the Canon G9x

Personally I have a Fuji X-T10 as my travel camera, I love it

    Great article!

    1. Hey Charlie, yes some of these point-and-shoot compact cameras are not cheap, but my new Samsung Galaxy S8 phone just cost me $700 and a mirrorless camera is expensive, so they are still a great option.

Glad you are happy with your Fuji.

  3. This week I bought my Sony Cyber-shot RX 100 V camera, and I’m very satisfied, because I only took photos on my smartphone and never went out the way I wanted, now just take the picture and that’s it, let’s show it.
Thanks for the tips, it helped me a lot to decide.

  4. The best point and shoot I had was actually an Olympus. It took some awesome photos and then i accidentally went swimming with it in a watering hole in The Kimberley on one of our longer campervan journeys. Doh! I took the memory card out and left the whole thing alone for 2 days to dry out. Fired it back up again and it kept on chugging. What a legend of a camera. (Probably wouldn’t have survived salt water though)

  5. This is a really good post! I’ve been looking to change my camera and actually went for a Canon G7x and so far I’m very pleased with its results! I love the fact that for such a small compact camera yields great results.

  6. It really does not have anything like having a compact camera that can accompany us anywhere. I was on the internet looking for references of compact cameras and I found this post very enlightening. All of them are very good, but the one that interested me the most was the Canon Powershot SX720, perfect for what I look for in my travels, like optical zoom, wifi, video in Full Hd. Thanks for the directions from the cameras.

  7. Our simply what I was searching on the internet until I found this post. I was looking for compact cameras for my travels and I loved the Panasonic Lumix ZS50, I’ll go after buying one for me now. Thank you for the tips.

  8. Great Post. As a Photography Professional, I can say that all Cameras analyzed are very good. My 11 year old daughter, and passionate about photography and has one of them, the Canon model G9X and has made interesting images.
Highly recommend to all. Thanks for sharing.

  9. I bought a sony cyber-shot RX 100 V used, but I’m having a hard time making your settings.
Besides, I’m loving the result I’m getting from her.
