Here are my favorite travel blog posts for the week. Each week I’ll be choosing my favorites to share with you so you can read all the other fabulous travel writing that is going on out there in the travel blogging world. I have stumbled, tweeted, liked and commented on each post and I highly recommend you to do the same. Each week I am aiming to highlight a post that features different travel topics. These are some of the areas I am looking at:
- travel inspiration/why travel
- travel video
- travel story
- travel photography
- travel destination
- travel tips
- travel blogging tips
- travel thoughts/philosophy
- Expat travel
If you feel you have a post that you would like me to read, make sure you draw it to my attention either through twitter, using the hashtag #ytravel. I will retweet, comment on and stumble all posts that are submitted.
Travel Story
The Day US Customs Found a Bullet in My Pocket by Earl at Wandering Earl
This is such a brilliant story from Earl about his frightening interrogation by US customs. Earl happened to have several innocent items on him that could have led one to be a little suspicious of his activities after returning from Pakistan, but really it highlights the paranoia and division that now exists in society. Without attempting to listen to story or reasons the officer immediately jumped to thoughts of terrorism and treated Earl accordingly. I love how Earl supported the Pakistani people and spoke the truth about who they are- beautiful, kind, and loving people who are intent on living a happy life. Earl is definitely one of my favorite writers and is such a worthy follow.

This is the second post in a series just started by Adam. He is choosing a photo to match each of the 100 things he loves about travel. Tune in every Friday for the next 10 in his series. It is a really cool idea and will certainly inspire you to start or continue traveling.
Travel Destination
Thailands Best Tropical Islands to Visit by Norbert at Globo Treks
Anything that talks about Thailand gets my vote. Norbert has given a great list of Thailands best Tropical Islands to visit. Spending any amount of time in Thailand is sure you add years to your life. And there is no better place to just relax, unwind and enjoy living in the moment than swinging in a hammock on the beaches of Thailand.
Travel Tips
How you can spend 3 months in Europe and not go broke by Suzy Gueze
This is a great post which shows how you can really travel without having to save a fortune. Suzy lived in Florence for the summer in Italy, and reduced her European budget through renting an apartment, cooking at home, and working. This is our favourite way to travel around the world- make it a working holiday. You can see more and travel longer.
Travel Inspiration
Letting go of Everything and Becoming a Minimalist by Jenny from Where is Jenny
Posts like these serve as a reality check for what you are doing when you decide to sell everything you own and embark on a round the world adventure. It’s not easy making the decision and as Jenny shows, the eternal questions of doubt run through your head. But when you make the decision to follow your dreams, you’ll notice the Universe will support you 100% and bring you so many amazing things. You’ll soon learn that what is important in life is not the accumulation of years of stuff but years of amazing memories- the only things that stay with you eternally.
Travel Thoughts
Hi it’s nice to meet you, I’m Awkward by Annie at Wayward Traveller
This is a really cute post about the awkwardness that comes about from greeting others cross culturally. Hugs that really should be kisses on the cheek end up placing you in an awkward grapple. I find this moving from the States to Australia and back. Australians kiss on the cheek while Americans give big bear hugs. I always mix it up and end up in an awkward embrace.

Thanks so much for including me; I really appreciate it!! You have a great collection of posts here.

Great posts this week! I’ve enjoyed reading all of them!
Some great posts this week.
Geeez… Reading “The Day US Customs Found A Bullet In My Pocket” really makes me sad for USA. It was once so great country where everyone was equal… now the officers are feeling really superior and some nations are considered really inferior… sad.. sad… sad…
I know- its so tragic, it feels as if our world is sliding backward. Sometimes I feel as if I live in a bubble where everyone is so tolerant and loving and then stories like these make it burst and thrust me back into reality. I think I just need to keep traveling and maintain the bubble
Thanks for stopping by
