What is a working holiday visa?
Working holiday visa presents a golden opportunity to travelers and backpackers to earn an income for supplementing their travel funds in the respective country. It is the golden ticket that allows travelers to mingle with the local culture and activities of a foreign country while managing their funds effectively.
Canada offers reciprocal working holiday visa programs with many countries around the world including Australia. This arrangement allows Australians to undertake employment or internships in Canada that can help them to sustain their stay and travel expenses while exploring the country. Every year, more than 7,000 Aussies fly to Canada to work, travel and have fun in local Canadian activities.
Mentioned below are key points that Australians have to consider while applying for a Canadian working holiday visa.
Important Points regarding the Canadian Working Holiday Visa
Starting from the date of issuing the visa, you have maximum 12 months to organize your journey to Canada. The visa is valid for 2 years from the date you set foot in Canada.
- You must be between 18 to 30 years of age to apply for this visa.
- You must possess an Australian passport that is valid for the duration of your stay in Canada.
- Traveling with dependants is not accepted.
- Aussies staying abroad should have an authentic Australian mailing address.
The visa costs $190 (AUD). This amount is payable by Australia Post money order made payable to the Canadian Consulate General. If you are located overseas, you can pay the visa fee by forwarding an International bank draft in Australian dollars. Payment through cash, credit, and personal cheques is not accepted.
Proof of Funds
Canadian working holiday visa requires a proof of the availability of $4,000 (AUD) in your funds. When you enter Canada, you may be asked to produce sufficient proof of funds in the form of cash, travellers’ cheques, or your credit card or bank statement.
There is no annual quota for Aussies who wish to apply for this visa.
During the visa tenure of 2 years, there are no restrictions on the duration of employment term that you can have under a particular employer. If you are interested in working in the educational or medical sectors, you are required to undergo a medical examination in Canada.
