For the purpose of this post, and organizing our US travel content in a way that makes travel sense, we define the Southwest region as being comprised of Nevada, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico.

Things to note for the Southwestern US road trip itinerarie

– Adapt the itinerary based upon your departure and arrival times. – Instead of adding in times for each day, I’ve listed my recommendations so you can slot it into times that suit your schedule.

Short 3-Week Southwest Region Trip

This itinerary for 3 weeks through the Southwest region of the USA will take you through Utah and Arizona starting and ending in Las Vegas. Add time before our after the road trip to explore Las Vegas. You’ll find activities for Las Vegas area on the last day.

Day 1: Vegas -> Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada

I can’t believe it took me years of traveling through the American Southwest before I heard of Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada. It is simply spectacular. The vistas like the photo above can be seen everywhere you turn and in multiple hues of red, orange, pink and yellow.
