Bondi Beach in Sydney is probably Australia’s most famous beach. “Bondi” or “Boondi” is an Aboriginal word meaning water breaking over rocks or noise of water breaking over rocks.
Whilst Bondi is very famous and attracts thousands of visitors each year, I personally believe Australia has much nicer beaches elsewhere that are less pretentious and of a more natural setting.
One thing I do like about Bondi is that it’s the starting point for the stunning Bondi to Coogee Beach coastal walk.
Other claims to fame include the fact that it has been used as a location for a few Australian and International movies, various television series, the beach volleyball at the Sydney Olympics, and it’s the end point of the City to Surf Fun Run which is held each year in August.
Many Irish and British tourists also spend Christmas Day at the beach.
