It was time to celebrate 8 years of marriage and travel today and what many reasons for celebrations we have. 8 years ago we got married and decided that living a conventional life just would not suit our marriage. We decided to set off on our adventure of travel around the world and are still venturing. It was a big decision and a risky one. We had not traveled together before and traveling with someone can be a make it or break it kind of deal. We knew that, we risked it and 8 years later we are still living it.
Craig and I chose to live life out of the box. Living life out of the box means foregoing the cultural limitations of your past which instruct you to finish school, go to college, get a good paying job, pay your bills, get married have children, retire and then die. This is a “normal” life and is enclosed by very tight and suffocating walls. There is not much room for growth when you live in a box. The box tells you what to think, how to act, what to believe without allowing you the space to discover the truth for yourself. Most people fear to venture outside of the box and end up conforming to it and when they die they are placed in a box.
Craig and I chose to live a life that was wider and freer and more abundantly full than what the four sides of a box could contain. We have gone against conventional wisdom and a conventional life to one that is lived on our terms. For a time after our 5 year honeymoon we chose to re-enter the box which was the most challenging period of my life and of Craigs. It was suffocating, depressing, stressful and meaningless and I finally discovered that I was not meant to live life in a box. I could not survive in a box, my soul and my purpose are so much bigger than what the box can define for me. And so now with celebration the walls of the box crumble once more and we are reentering that world of travel that helped to build for us a strong, fun, loving marriage.
When you realize that you are the planet, you are not living in a box anymore. The comfort zone is not taken for granted and the awe inspiring Universe is a place of great adventures. Life becomes very big but your personal story falls into perspective. Go to nature, sleep under the night sky. Remember where you are and who you are” Yossi Ghinsberg
