Before you set off on holiday, there are some important travel preparations you should make. You see, it’s no use getting your travel clothes and currency together if you’re going to set out without fully preparing yourself for your holidays.

It’s also worth doing things like learning the laws of the country you’re visiting, planning your routes properly, getting the correct vaccinations, and heading to Lloyds Pharmacy to stock up on travel medications. After all, you owe it to yourself and your family/fellow travellers to be fully prepared for your vacation.

Learn the Laws of the Country

The internet is a great repository of information for your travels, whatever your destination. Many websites give detailed accounts of the laws of the country you should be aware of before you visit it.

If an internet search fails to bring up the right results you should contact your travel company, as they’re there to help with such matters.

Planning Your Routes Properly

If you’ve got a clear idea of the areas of the country you’ll be visiting, you should plan your daily routes before embarking on your travels. If you’re driving and you don’t possess a satnav, it’s certainly worth purchasing one.

If you’re not driving use Google Maps to plan your route. Having a clear route plan for each day will free up more time during your holiday to simply enjoy the experience.

Getting the Correct Vaccinations and Medications

When you choose your holiday destination, you should make an appointment to see your doctor and gain some advice on potential health risks.

Your GP can highlight health issues relating to your travel destination, such as the need for vaccinations and anti-malarial tablets, but can also tell you whether you’re immune to such common and widespread diseases as measles, or if you’ve been immunised in the past for various diseases.

It’s a good idea to obtain and carry a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) if you’re visiting a country within the EU, as it can entitle you to reduced cost or free medical treatment.

Anti-malarial tablets should be taken if you’re heading to Africa, the Caribbean, Central and East Asia, India, the Middle East or Central and South America.

If you’re visiting any of the aforementioned regions it’s also vital that you’re vaccinated against Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, rabies, tetanus, diphtheria, cholera, tuberculosis and yellow fever.

A few months before you go on holiday search online to see if there have been any outbreaks of diseases in the country you’re visiting so you can take the necessary precautions. Again, consult your GP for advice and guidance on vaccinations and useful medications.

Naturally, you should equip yourself with sunscreen, after-sun lotion, insect repellent, antiseptic, antihistamines, anti-diarrhoea tablets and a fully stocked first aid kit.

Don’t forget Travel Insurance

Finally, it’s always wise to secure strong travel insurance. Use online travel insurance comparison sites to find a competitive price on a policy that covers you for everything you require.

If you plan to do some activities, skiing for example, check that your travel insurance covers you for them.

Follow these simple tips and you’ll be on your way to being properly prepared for your travels.

    • Definitely, like America. You don’t want to go there without travel insurance. You would be in deep trouble should something go wrong
