Best blog posts for the week

Catching up on travel reading

Here are my favorite travel blog posts for the week. Each week I’ll be choosing my favorites to share with you so you can read all the other fabulous travel writing that is going on out there in the travel blogging world. I have stumbled, tweeted, liked and commented on each post and I highly recommend you to do the same. Each week I am aiming to highlight a post that features different travel topics. These are some of the areas I am looking at: travel inspiration, travel video, travel story, travel photography, travel destination, travel tips, or travel blogging tips. If you feel you have a worthy post that you would like me to read, make sure you draw it to my attention either through twitter, Stumbleupon or fan page wall.

5 Simple Tips for better Travel Photos by Wes at Johnny Vagabound

Wes offers us 5 travel photography tips on issues such as composition, subjects and editing. I really appreciated the editing tips in particular as it is not an area of strength for me and I am currently looking at editing programs. Wes mentions a couple that work and how editing can really turn an okay shot into something more eye catching. Travelers spend so much time and energy into traveling the world, it is so important that the same energy is put into capturing spectacular shots to help create a memory trail of your travels.

Tips for Traveling with Parents by Ant at Trail of Ants

I really appreciated reading this post after not long coming off a 3 week road trip through the Carolina’s with my parents. Traveling with parents is something you will always worry about. A lot can go right, but a lot can also go wrong. Like Ant, I had severed my apron strings many years ago, and I am also the opposite to my parents in many different ways. However, after our time together- with no killings- I discovered we actually had a lot in common. We had a really great time together and I can say it certainly has bought us closer and given us many memories we can share now. Ant’s tips are really spot on and a must follow for anyone thinking of traveling with their parents.

What Woy Woy Means to Me by Annie Bettis from Wayward Traveler

Annie wrote this as a guest post for y travel blog this week. I chose this post as it reflects how travel can create profound memories for travelers, not so much for the place you visit but for the people you share it with. I know Woy Woy and Putty Beach very well, as you would know if you have been following this blog; it is my hometown. And when Annie first told me that one of her most treasured travel memories was from my hometown my first thought was WTF? Woy Woy? of all places in the world? My view and experience of Woy Woy is totally separate from that of a group of young travelers setting off together on an adventure and discovering more about themselves and each other. I’m sure we’ve all had similar experiences in small, unknown towns, where to the locals they may think we’re crazy for loving it, but to us, the travelers, the place represents so much more. Thank you to Annie for helping me to look at my hometown through new eyes.

Northern India Special by Felipe at No place Like Here

I’ve never been to India, and it’s one of those places where I really want to go one minute and then the next I’m not too sure. After reading this post, I really want to go. Felipe has done a fantastic job of placing you in India amongst the sights, smells, and people. His snapshot of the highlights of places to visit as well as stunning photographs makes this a must read for the week.

Choosing a Phone for World Travel by Keith at Traveling Savage

It’s no surprise that Keith is featured again. Apart from being one of my favorite travel writers, he always provides helpful information to make your travel journey a little easier. Like Keith, I am in the dark ages about telecommunications, so this post was extremely helpful to me. I’m still yet to go through it multiple times, with techo-geek dictionary in hand, to fully understand just what I need to purchase for my next travel adventure. All I know is that I definitely need to upgrade to a smartphone and this post has certainly helped prepare me for the move up.
